BANDCAMP CRATE DIG | Month Of December
Last month of 2017, last BCD of 2017. Awesome little series that I'm definitely continuing throughout 2018.
CHNRLES - S/T
CHNRLES is a treat to listen to with the soft vocals and dreamy production, as if a toned down version of Joy Division got into hip-hop for a brief period. The production is very well done and throughout the project you can lose sense of when this could have been released. There is a lot of styles that have been successful in the past that isn't touched as much these days and I believe that CHNRLES does these sounds justice. You get a bit of synth, a bit of trap, and a bit of new-wave, all mixed underneath a relaxed voice that plays with melodies and vocal effects that come together into a well put together R&B album. Peep the songs below, "LIFE" is a dope track that you can let your mind wander to.
shallow grave - rest in pieces
Didn't expect to hear a grunge record that I could get behind anytime soon but Rest In Pieces captures the Nirvana vibe wholly. The vocalist is just different enough that you can enjoy this project for what it is. As it stands the album displays a great mixture of disgruntled emotions and edgy execution in its instrumentals. The writing throughout is catchy and very enjoyable as well as does a spectacular job at conveying the appropriate amount of attitude for each track. Vocals are best put on display in the first three tracks and all around make for a good sounding album. Check it out below.
Lucas charlie rose - genderf*ckboi
Montreal based Lucas Charlie Rose is a trans artist looking to make a music career a more successful route for all transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people through the music organization Trans Trenderz. This organization helps showcase a develop artists that may not have an equal playing field in the music industry and I believe that is very admirable. Genderf*ckboi is great too! You can get a real sense of artistic display and many elements of talented production all done by Lucas himself. "South Side of the Wrong Side" is a must listen to, a true genre bending song. Lucas really unveils all of his emotions and kind of leaves the listener to decide whether they accept him or not, but with energy and confidence I believe that you can't leave this project without enjoying elements of it. Definitely give this one a listen to.
